Berkey Light Water Filter

The Berkey Light water purifier can be used in any setting, but it was originally designed to be a lower-cost, lightweight, portable alternative to our larger stainless steel units. Weighing only seven pounds, the Berkey Light holds 2.5 gallons of purified water and can provide enough water for groups of up to 10 to 20 people. The Berkey Light is ideally suited for outdoor and emergency use, as it requires no water pressure and no electricity and can provide pure drinking water from almost any source. More than just a water filter, the Berkey Light is classified as a water purifier. Our microfiltration system outperforms our competitors by filtering out 99.99% of viruses and bacteria β€” as well as other contaminants such as chlorine and lead β€” without the use of harsh chemicals. The Berkey Light water filter systems have features that are unique to this specific model of water purifier. Light and durable, the see-through container makes it easier to determine the amount of water in the upper container without the need to have the water-view spigot. The built-in elevated base makes it possible to place a drinking water glass under the spigot without having to place the unit on the edge of the counter. The lightweight BPA-free poly material is extremely durable, making it dent- and shatter-proof. The Berkey Light water purifier produces the same quality and quantity of water as the stainless steel models at a more economical price. All Berkey Light water filter units come with two filters and two plugs and have the capability to accept four filters. It’s the most economical of our larger units; the two Black Berkey filters that come with the unit are good for up to 6,000 gallons of purified drinking water, at only about 2 cents per gallon. If you purchase the four-filter model, you get an extra set of Black Berkey elements. If at any time you need a higher water flow rate, converting to a larger system is easy β€” simply remove the supplied plugs from the upper container and add the extra filters. The Berkey Light water filter & purifier comes with complete instructions and everything you need to start enjoying the benefits of great-tasting purified drinking water anywhere you go. Berkey Light Water Filter Reviews

Love it! Review by Shikago

I got this as a gift from family. Bought a house that has well water. I lived in Chicago for over 40 years and I was used to city water so the shock with water is one I am still not over and it's been 4 years! I have an entire system for the water, solar salt and a different system that filters it with potassium manginate or how it's spelled. Anyway, I take my tap water and run it thru the Berkey Light! I works like a charm! I have to lightly scrub off the filters because of the film but the odor is removed and I can actually drink water that came out of my tap! I know it isn't recommended but it does work! (Posted on 10/17/2013)
Just too big Review by Jessi

Good filter. In short, your filter is too big. In fact, it's blocking my cabinet. Do you have something smaller? (Posted on 7/9/2013)
Almost perfect, but manual is slightly lacking Review by Jason

I use mine for filtering city tap water. The water that comes out is totally clear and tastes perfectly pure. I have and will continue to recommend this product to friends.

I do have one complaint/suggestion. In the instructions that come with the filter they don't fully explain how to best prime the filters. I used mine for over a year with a flow rate of something like 1/4 to 1/2 gallons per hour, and just put up with it because the quality was so good. However, after reading that it was supposed to be 4 gallons per hour, I googled around and found the INFO THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE MANUAL.

On youtube I saw somebody prime the filters by using the threaded wing nut to support the rubber piece at just the right place, making it simple to create a pressure tight seal between the faucet and the filter. Without knowing that I had struggled with trying to keep the pressure seal but it always leaked. Though the filters sorta behaved as expected during priming, they performed poorly

After seeing the video on youtube, I removed my filters, dried them very thoroughly over the course of several days, and re-primed them using that new method. Suddenly, I am getting the 4 gallons per hour. Seems like 5-10 times faster now. (Posted on 12/23/2012)
Berkey Light in my fishing camp Review by "King Charlie"

I run a remote fishing camp in Alaska. We are many miles from treated water. I feel better having my clients drink the water from the Berkey water filter. We are located directly on the banks of a major river so having water is not a problem. I still have the original unit in service with the original filters I purchased from Berkey filters over 10 years ago. I am a devoted customer for life. (Posted on 8/24/2012)
Best Water Filtration System EVER! Review by Kendell (Colorado)

We purchased our Berkey about 8 years ago and we are extremely happy with it. We have taken it camping with us, and the extra LED light base has come in handy many times in power outages, and while we were camping. This is the best system they offer in my opinion because you can see how much water you have stored in the bottom area, whereas you can't in the stainless steel systems. We are going to buy a second for backup. The PF-2 filters are a great addition too. You won't regret purchasing this product!! (Posted on 8/6/2012)
Berkey Light Review Review by John Stokes

I just received my Berkey Light and I had some thoughts I would like to share. Berkey offers several different models and the process of deciding on which one was best for my needs was confusing. This process was not made much easier because of the fact that so many places sale the Berkey. Each store presents the information in a little different manner and frankly there is a lot of information that is flat out false. I looked at probably 15 different Berkey sites and found only 3 or 4 I would trust. This site in particular is the only site I found that had the lifetime warranty, I don't believe the manufacturer (berkeywater.com) even offers this, however it was a good source of information. What I found was that the Berkey Light was by far the most economical way to go. It was comparable to the Royal Berkey in size but for the four filter model it was $60 dollars cheaper. I have a friend with a Stainless unit and I must admit it is a nicer looking unit and the stainless seems to be a little better quality but I was looking for economy because I am planning on storing the system in case of emergency. The lid was made of cloth, that seems a little strange but I guess it will work fine for keeping dust and bugs out of the water. Overall I am happy with my purchase, if I was wanting a show piece I may have went with the Royal. (Posted on 6/3/2012)

We have the Berkey Light and have been using it for eight years now. We use around 5 gallons a week and it has been a great product. We (my wife) used to buy water by the gallon at the store but what a waste of money! We have saved thousands. It was a wedding gift from my brother and it has turned out to be the best gift we received. I have recommended it to several friends as well, who purchased them. At first the cost seems a bit high but compared to the cartridge filters or by the gallon, this is a far better deal. We have terrible tasting water here but the Berkey turns it into better tasting water than the water by the gallon jugs (Posted on 1/26/2012)
