Stainless Steel is widely used because of it's excellent strength, corrosion resistance, and fabric-abilty properties. The type of stainless steel that the Berkey uses is austenitic 304-grade, which is also commonly used for appliances, commercial food processing, fasteners, and pipes.

With the exception of the Berkey Light, the upper and lower chambers of all Berkeys are made with stainless steel, which is stronger than aluminum, but more giving than many other metals. Your Berkey filter will last for years and years!

Another perk of our stainless steel water purifier is the ease of cleaning--the upper and lower chambers are dishwasher safe!
